The Global South refers to a group of countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, generally characterized as developing or underdeveloped, with a focus on economic and political disparities compared to the Global North. While not geographically precise, the term often implies a shared history of colonialism and a focus on issues like poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation.

This diagram highlights the global south and the countries
that requested external assistance for food and experienced a shock to food insecurity by the GRFC.
While the red color represents countries that requested
external assistance for food, the black color represents countries/territories that did not meet the GIEWS but
experienced a shock to food security. The chain acts as a vector of power over the global south, dividing it from colonial Western forces.

The Global South bears the brunt of hunger, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa. Arable land limitations, water shortages, famine, and socioeconomic challenges compound hunger issues and have led to the emergence of 'Climate Change Refugees', underscoring the urgent need for sustainable, local, and equitable food systems globally. The World Bank estimates that climate change will displace over 140 million people in the Global South by 2050, with Sub-Saharan Africa expected to witness the highest number of climate migrants, around 86 million, 80% of whom are women.

This map is to present the global south in an abstract treatment. To understand the map in a new condition, one of a new topography, focused on the global south.
